It doesn’t matter if you’re just learning to shoot a gun or have been hunting since you were a kid – traveling to new places to hunt is exciting for everyone. Different landscapes offer different cultures, different weather, and you guessed it – different wildlife. There are places to hunt almost everywhere in the world and if you’re planning a trip it can get a little overwhelming.
Take a look at five of the best places on earth for hunters to travel to.
Idaho, United States
If it’s black bear you’re after, the state of Idaho is the place to go. Idaho has the largest population of black bears in the Rocky Mountains, and in the spring time they are fairly easy to spot on the green hills. Of course, with all of the mountainous and heavily wooded areas, bears won’t be the only thing you’re hunting here.
Wyoming, United States
Wyoming has more antelope than human beings, so your odds of having a successful hunt there are pretty good. There is plenty of public land you can legally hunt on, or you have the option to pay a small fee to hunt on private land. Although guides are definitely available, DIY hunts are popular in Wyoming.
Colorado, United States
Aside from bears and various types of deer, Colorado offers a large mountain lion population for those who like an element of danger in their hunt. They also boast a large number of mountain goats, and long hunting seasons.
Go in the winter for the best experience, but pack appropriately! Colorado gets very cold and you wouldn’t want to find yourself with a lack of layers.
Argentina
Large populations of wild boar, red stag, water buffalo, and puma have made Argentina a very popular hunting destination. They are also world famous for their dove and pigeon hunting. With much lesser known game also available to hunt (such as the largest rodent in the world, the capybara), Argentina really has something interesting for every different type of hunter. Not to mention it’s absolutely beautiful.
Namibia
If you’re interested in hunting exotic game, Namibia, in Africa, is the place for you. Here, you can safely and legally hunt elephants, cheetahs, lions, and hippos – among other things. Before traveling to Namibia, just make sure you get your proper vaccinations and are prepared for the elements, which are likely very different from where you live. I recommend going on a professionally guided safari hunt for the safest and most legal experience.
Hunting is a hobby that can take you to your back yard or all over the world, but no matter where you go – remember to have fun, be safe, and shoot well!
